A highly curated digital archive and index of past, current, and emerging high fashion, archival, avant-garde, and niche fashion brands — with a strong emphasis on Asian fashion (Japan, South Korea, China, and beyond), while also featuring notable European and American designers for broader context.

This repository functions as a living reference and discovery platform for designers, researchers, collectors, stylists, fashion students, and enthusiasts who want to explore the depth of fashion history and contemporary creativity.

What’s Inside a Country Folder?

Each country folder is self-contained and includes:

• Country.md — A single, alphabetically organized master list of all documented brands from that country. - Subcultures/ folder — Curated thematic lists (e.g., Avant-Garde, Punk, Minimal, Streetwear, Visual Kei, etc.) containing links to relevant brands from the main list.

This structure allows users to browse both geographically and aesthetically.

Brand Entry Template

All brands follow a consistent format defined in Templates/brand-template.md. This ensures readability and high information quality across the archive.

Typical entries include:

• Origin, founding year, and founder
• Detailed description and cultural significance
• Signature subculture and techniques
• Notable collections or moments
• Official links (website, Instagram, etc.)
• Visual references (screenshots or lookbook images)

Contributing

This is a community-curated project. Everyone is welcome to participate!

You can contribute by:

• Adding new brands
• Expanding existing entries with better descriptions or links
• Creating or improving subculture lists
• Adding high-quality images/screenshots

How to Contribute

1. Recommended: Fork the repository, make your changes, and submit a Pull Request.
2. Alternative: Open a Git Issue with the brand name, relevant links, and any information you may have.

All submissions will be carefully reviewed before being merged. The goal is to maintain a high-quality, accurate, and well-curated archive — low-effort or poorly researched entries will not be accepted.

Guidelines

• Prioritize archival value, cultural relevance, and creativity
• Focus especially on Asian designers and niche/underground brands
• Provide sources when possible
• Use the official brand template for consistency

Future Plans

• Expand visual references with more images and lookbooks
• Add designer indexes and key collection timelines
• Include brand evolution over decades
• Create cross-references between similar aesthetics across countries
