This should enable wireguard connections, too. They are added to system preferences / network.

the idea to use scutil comes from stve's workflow: https://github.com/stve/alfred-vpn but I did not want to have two workflows.

at the moment builtin is listed as an app in the config, I did not know how to work around this.

It doesn't find IKEv2 VPNs, so I wouldn't count on it showing Wireguard VPNs.

What kind of VPNs do you have?

I do have one wireguard setup (mullvad) and it shows up in system preferences and in scutil as VPN:com.wireguard.macos. Having said so, it does not show up in the menu bar item for vpns.
