NOTE: I am still documenting the procedure. I will share it shortly.
It's great to have Carla running on Mac Mini, its a beast for its price and size. Even the power consumption is lesser than Nvidia GPU.

tried to compile carla python client natively on mac, did not work. So the workaround is to use a docker container which emulates linux/amd64 on mac. Hacky but works !

I haven't figured out how to add ros support to wine. You could try:

• install ros natively on mac and try to see if it can connect with the server
• install ros in the wine terminal
• use ros on another device and try to connect to carla server on mac

Docker is out of question as the ros multicast is limited to docker's network.

Hey, I find a way to running python client on the winetrick or winery, I'm not sure about app name. It's no matter, lets implement that.
(Macbook M2 Pro)
Instructions:

Step 1: CARLA Server on Apple Silicon Mac.pdf do this procedure.(install carla 0.9.15 ) thank you so much bro @nveshaan

Step 2: Download Windows 64bit Python 3.10 and open KegworksConfig => click Install Software => click Choose Setup Executable => Select Python exe file => When opened the python installation => click Customize Installation => Select All Checkboxes => next => click Install for all users and Add Python to environment variables (path: C:\Program Files\Python310) => Click Install

Step 3: Then click the Command Line in the KegworksConfig and run this command python c:\program files\windowsnoeditor\pythonapi\examples\vehicle_gallery.py

Problem Fixing:

1. If you got is error like that:

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'shapely'

just dopip install shapely or pip install ........(what you need)

2. if you have issue like freezing and slow screen you can set this parameter like that :
   "C:\Program Files\WindowsNoEditor\CarlaUE4.exe" -quality-level=Low

Yes, I tried this and it works better than docker.

My project depends on ROS. It has nodes for publishing images, position, velocity, etc. from CARLA.

I tried installing ROS in winery, but it didn't work out. So, I've got two options:

1. Stick with docker.
2. Use rpyc & zmq, to run a python script in wine, which acts as an API between CARLA on wine and carla scripts on Mac.

Have you got any other ideas?

This is really awesome. I was literally paying for windows server to run CARLA and PythonAPI for my research. Now it is running in my M4 Pro MacBook Pro with 24GB RAM.

Hello, I have a project where I need to install Ubuntu 20.04, Python 3.7, ROS Noetic, CARLA, and the CARLA-ROS bridge. All of these installations need to be done using a PC at my university. However, I don’t have a PC at home, so I want to try it on my Mac and see if running it through Windows Parallel will work. Fortunately, I found this! I plan to use my MacBook Air 2020 (8GB RAM). Do you think I can complete my project by following these installation steps?

Getting CARLA and ROS to work together is something I still haven't figured out. CARLA works on Wine (I tried installing ROS in Wine but failed to do so). ROS works on Docker, but ROS multicast is limited to Docker containers.

Things to try!!!

1. Install ROS natively on mac and see if it can connect to CARLA server on Wine.
2. Figure out a way to compile and install CARLA client (python api) on mac.

Hello thank you for your kind instruction. However i have an error while i tried to run it. I am using Mac Book Air M3 with OS 26.1(latest) and Carla 0.9.16. I followed all the step including installing win10 and cmd from winetricks. However when i test run it, i can see the fatal error and Carla is opening win-64-shipping.exe. I guess that exe file is essential to run it because when i delete it from the directory there is another error. Could you advise me on this issue? Thank you in advance.

I am not sure what the problem is. I never tested it on mac os 26. I suggest you delete everything and start again from scratch.

If the error still persists, it would be nice if you could attach a screenshot and mention the exact step where it is failing. I will then take a look over it.

Followed all the steps, some things are now named differently and the CARLA package attempts to install under ~/Applications, not a problem though. Running CarlaUE4.exe on macOS 26 -- no luck here, I end up with a 'fatal error' when running 'Test Run'.

According to your documentation, PythonAPI of Carla does not work yet directly on MAC. Right? It has to be via Docker?

If that is the way isn't it easier put everything in Docker?

Yeah, Carla server cannot run on docker, but carla python api can be run in docker.

The current best way is to run the carla server through wine and make python api calls from docker.

How about @canibal1 's comment above? I could run python API using Winery Config with few hiccups. What are the disadvantages I haven't faced yet? I will run custom python APIs mainly to generate different type of scenes. I do not need ROS right now which you have issues with.

Thank you for the guide! Is it possible to run the Carla Additional Maps (for 0.9.15) through Winery? I tried downloading them and manually adding to the Maps directory in Carla 0.9.15, but then the Carla Client wasn't able to find the new maps (using Docker).

Hmm, it should work according to Maps - CARLA Simulator.

Try out different ways and report your findings. We'll figure out something.
