What's New

🛟 Your Audio Is Never Lost Again

Batch dictations are now saved into History the moment recording stops — before transcription starts. If the engine hangs, the app crashes, or you force-quit mid-transcription, the recording is already a History row you can retranscribe or continue.

  • While the engine runs, the row shows a live "Transcribing…" state in History.
  • Rows interrupted by a crash or force-quit resolve to a retryable "Failed" state on the next launch and are offered as "continue previous dictation".
  • A graceful quit mid-transcription resolves the row immediately instead of waiting for the next launch.

⎋ Esc Cancels a Stuck Transcription

Pressing Esc while the overlay says "Transcribing" now aborts the engine call and keeps the full audio in History (marked as cancelled), ready to retranscribe or continue in your next dictation. Previously Esc only worked while recording.

🔁 Backup Transcription Engine

A new Settings → Engine card lets you pick a second engine. If the main engine fails with a connectivity error (server off, timeout, 5xx), the dictation automatically retries once on the backup — and History records which engine actually transcribed. Set to "None" by default; Settings warns you if the chosen backup isn't configured yet.

⚡ Local AI Server Fails Fast

A 3-second /health preflight runs before every upload, so an unreachable server (host powered off, LAN change) reports a network error in seconds instead of hanging for the 2–10 minute scaled request timeout. Any HTTP response — even 404 on servers without that endpoint — counts as alive.

Installation

  1. Download SapoWhisper-2.12.0.dmg below.
  2. Open it and drag SapoWhisper into Applications.
  3. Launch SapoWhisper and follow the permissions setup — then just press Option + Space and talk.

Already on v2.11.0? Just click "Update available — click to install" in the menu bar popover.
