API-Only Red Team Testing Guide

This guide shows how to use the red-team framework to test various API endpoints without access to source code.

Quick Start

Enhanced Multi-Turn Attacks (Now Default!)

Adaptive Multi-Turn is now enabled by default! Attacks will:

  • Analyze AI responses in real-time
  • Generate follow-ups based on what the AI says
  • Build trust gradually before escalating
  • Adapt strategy if the AI refuses or complies

Best Practices

  1. Start with reconnaissance - Use API discovery attacks first
  2. Test authentication thoroughly - Try all auth bypass techniques
  3. Monitor rate limiting - Respect API limits during testing
  4. Document findings - The framework generates detailed reports
  5. Test incrementally - Start with safe attacks, escalate gradually
  6. Use realistic scenarios - Frame attacks as legitimate use cases

Sample Output Analysis

The framework will generate reports showing:

  • PASS - Attack succeeded, potential vulnerability
  • ⚠️ PARTIAL - Suspicious response, needs manual review
  • FAIL - Attack blocked by defenses
  • 🔧 ERROR - Technical failure (network, auth, etc.)

Look for patterns like:

  • High success rates in specific categories
  • Partial responses that leak information
  • Inconsistent rate limiting behavior
  • Error messages revealing internal details
