The tldr package in ubuntu was from upstream debian. They packaged an ancient haskel client that had rendering issues and was way out of date in terms of spec compliance. Shame that they didn't replace the package with our python client. For now you can use tealdeer as your client https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=plucky§ion=all&arch=any&keywords=tealdeer&searchon=names Here's links to the mailing list discussions #16068 |

The tldr package in Ubuntu is imported directly from Debian. In the Debian repositories the tldr source package was dropped after the Haskell client was marked orphaned and no maintainer stepped up to replace it with the Python client. Consequently Ubuntu 25.10, which syncs from Debian unstable/testing, no longer includes the tldr binary. The transitional tldr‑py package remains for users who still have the old |

Any reason or news on why the
tldrpackage was dropped from Ubuntu 25.10? All that is left is a deprecatedtldr-py.All reactions
