Describe the bug

One of my P110 was updated to firmware release 1.4.6 and now tapo integration is unable to connect to the plug. There is even an ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED error when trying to access via browser. My other plugs show "200 OK". Third-party compatibilty is enabled.

I was able to fix the issue by resetting the plug, re-adding it to the tapo app and toggling third-party compatibility option. Now also "200 OK" is displayed again.

So this is not an issue with the integration, but maybe it helps others who run into the issue!

Edit: It seems the fix does not survive a power outage and you have to reset it again if you unplug it.

This has also happened to a couple of my P110 plugs. Beware firmware upgrades.

Same here but you can avoid the reseting. You can turn on and off or off and on the tapo plug from the tapo app when you are on the same wifi as the plug. After that you get the normal fonction of the tapo plug. (200 ok and home assistant working)

Moving the plugs from the HACS Tapo integration to the native HA TP-Link Smart Home integration makes them accessible again. It looks like an authentication change in the new firmware affects this.

Same here.
Moving to the native HA-plugin solves the issue.
I used the HACS-integration to ensure local-network connection, but it looks like the native integration is also using local network only.

hey @vdswouter and @paultweedy77 thanks for the hint! Worked really well. Do you know any pros / cons using the native HA TP-Link Smart Home integration?

What is a bit weird: as soon as I use the HA TP-Link Smart Home integration and add a plug, the custom integration works fine again and shows a connection to the plug again (in the custom integration). After deactivating the HA TP-Link Smart Home integration, the custom integration continues to hold the connection and works fine..

I have a very similar issue. I have Tapo Controller 3.5.0 with HACS 2.0.5. No matter which route I take I can't access my Tapo L530 lights. I made the mistake of letting the firmware update on Monday. It is Ver 1.4.2 Build 260113 Rel. 172011
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

One of my other Tapo L530s with the same firmware, same network works just fine. Credentials went right through. ?? SMH

I am having the same issue, I have a lot of plugs already on V1.4.6 they updated and work fine.

However I have 3 devices which havnt been plugged in for 6 months, plugged them in they worked fine with HA, updated them now im getting an authentication error on them, the others are still working fine.

If I try and add it via TP-Link smart home it throws this after I give it the IP

Think I have found a fix, turn off the 3rd party access in the app wait 30 sec then turn it back on, reload the intergration in HA and its fixed it for my 3 plugs that were playing up :)

I guess it must resend the keys or something??

Turning 3rd party access off, then back on worked for me too!

I bought four Tapo P115 smart plugs this last week. I followed the great instructions on reddit from just a month ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/1spf8h9/setting_up_tapo_p115_smart_plugs_in_home_assistant/). And no luck. I've tried everything I can think of. Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugs, the app, using the TP-Link Smart Home native to HA and also the HACS one. All of them fail. The native TP-Link tells me: "Connection Error: Unsupported Device . . ."

If I leave it blank, it cannot see it through discovery (i.e., "No device found on this network.")

Then I try the HACS Tapo add, where I input the IP address and my credentials (which work on the app, have all lower-case in the name and a simple password).

I did add the Tapo P115s with manual entry on the app (as suggested by others).

I made sure third-party connections were allowed (I toggled it off and on a few times through the tests, just to be sure as I did reinstalls).

I paired it first with my phone's bluetooth before adding it in the app.

I'd be grateful for any help to get these working. I'd rather not return them, if at all possible.
