Keep dialog titlebar visible in upcoming Mint 23 #1661

I prefer present version, i.e. dimmed screen, with non-dragable dialogs. It feels more natural. I want focus on the dialog, other windows are unimportant, and is a distraction. I do like the new cleaner dialogs with no title bars. I do not think the loss of title bars would be any problem at all. And, it looks much better. |

Cinnamon in new version uses Clutter to handle the password prompt. This causes serious issues as discussed in linuxmint/cinnamon#12636 and https://github.com/orgs/linuxmint/discussions/774 |

I think, to align buttons to the right is inconvenient for left handed. Why not center buttons or keep them as they are, thus to fill the bottom space? The old placement is more user friendly for older people as well. Also, the old placement of cancel / ok looks like Linux, but the new look resembles Mac or Windows. I want Linux to look like Linux. The new design trend removes Linux' typical "look and feel" it isn't an improvement but impoverished look, as any common dialog needs to have:

This is how dialog windows should look IMO. Taken from Nemo file manager in Cinnamon. Titlebar so you can drag it easily without wondering if it is possible We already have the best dialog windows possible IMO.

It's nicer, but I still don't like the titlebar with Close button. Close button is unnecessary. You have the Cancel button to cancel action. Why would you close the dialog without answering? You should answer, not closing. I would also like, if possible, to have a clearer view what is default button, not a barely visible dotted line inside one button. |

The close button is very common to user interfaces, so to click on x is more intuitive than to press the Cancel button. In general, Linux is known to be an alternative and this concept should apply to everything. Restrictive and limited are only commercial solutions: that's their "design". Yes, the default button highlight could be more obvious. Probably to toggle with css. |

@ronny-se The dotted line inside button-in-focus is created by the GTK theme. To change that, either switch to a theme that provides a stronger effect, or modify an existing theme by yourself. About the close button: For some Yes-No question, the close button may not make sense. But for any dialog with a "Cancel" button, the close button on window corner is expected to be a reliable place to achieve the "cancel" effect without looking for where the cancel button is placed. |

I can see your point, and you are articulating it very well, but I feel the X-button in the Title bar may complicate things. Maybe, I'm nitt-picking, but If I choose 'Yes', and then close the dialog, it's not immediately clear the action have been cancelled. My point is that the X-button is of no use, a bit distracting, and can (should?) be removed. |

How do you "choose yes and then close the dialog" via the close button? If you click yes, the dialog is closed by the yes button. You can't click the close button again as it is already closed. |

According to https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=5025 the upcoming Mint 23 will get a change of design for dialogs. Clutter dialogs in Cinnamon will become draggable while the GTK dialogs will look cleaner.
Most of the changes are welcoming. However, can we keep the titlebar visible? It may looks "empty" if one don't give the dialog a title. But titlebar is a traditional visual clue that tells people "this popup is a draggable window". The loss of titlebar makes the dialog distracting. Users are less sure if it is draggable. Some may even assume it can't and never try.
Personally I would like to go further, and give the upcoming draggable Clutter dialogs a titlebar for each of them too.
