PennyMe Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 22, 2026

PennyMe is a free, account-free app operated by Jannis Born and Nina Wiedemann. This policy explains the limited information processed when you use the app.

Information we process

PennyMe does not require an account, name, email address, or social profile. The app and service may process:

  • A random installation identifier created by the app and stored in the device Keychain. It is sent only with contributions and safety reports.
  • Content you choose to submit, the affected machine, submission time, and moderation/report details.
  • Location information you choose to use for map features or include in a machine contribution. Ordinary map location is used on the device; submitted machine coordinates are sent to the service.
  • Basic technical log information needed to operate, secure, and diagnose the service.

Why we process it

We have to process this information to align with the requirements of the Apple AppStore. We use this information only to operate PennyMe, publish requested contributions, prevent spam and abuse, investigate reports, remove objectionable content, block abusive contributors, secure the service, and fix technical problems. We do not use it for advertising and do not sell it.

For device-local blocking, the service converts the installation identifier into a one-way pseudonym. Other users can receive that pseudonym so their app can hide content from the same contributor. They do not receive the installation identifier. Older content without an installation identifier is blocked only as an individual content item.

Service providers and disclosure

We use hosting infrastructure to operate PennyMe and Slack to alert the maintainers about contributions and safety reports. These providers process information only to provide those services and are expected to protect it consistently with this policy. We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the public, or the service.

Retention and deletion

Public contributions are retained while they remain useful to PennyMe. Private contribution attribution is retained while the related content is published and as reasonably necessary to investigate abuse. Moderation reports and enforcement records may be retained for up to 24 months, or longer when needed for security, repeat-abuse prevention, or legal obligations. Anonymous contributor digests on the abuse denylist are retained while the restriction is necessary.

You can request correction or deletion of a contribution or associated moderation data by emailing jannis.born@gmx.de and identifying the machine and content. Because PennyMe has no accounts and does not know your identity, we may need enough information to locate and verify the requested contribution.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Children

PennyMe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A parent or guardian can contact us to request deletion.

External links and services

PennyMe may open third-party services such as Apple Maps or a web browser. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. The latest version and its effective date will be published with the project.
